France: Paris and Quiberon

From August 8th to August 18th, 2019

In August of 2019, we took our first trip to France. That was also our first family vacation in Europe in a long time, so picking a destination wasn’t easy. France and Italy were our top choices, but Paris ultimately won because of urbanism, food, modern art, and stories full of love for this country from our expat friends from there.

I booked our flights mid-May and started to plan our visit. We had about 10 days and wanted to split them between Paris and a quieter and calmer place to recharge after what was going to be a very busy summer. When we told friends that we’re planning a trip they generously offered us to stay in their summer house in a seaside resort town Quiberon in Brittany in western France. That seemed like a great destination for what we were looking for, so we decided to stay in Paris for 5 days, rent a car and take a road trip to Quiberon (527 km or 327 miles), relax and enjoy a beach for 3 days, then drive back to Paris with a stop at Chartres, and stay at the hotel next to the airport to take an early flight home next morning.
